My 2023 photography in review
Settling into the Rhythm
Yay! February is finally here! January felt like an eternity, more like four months than just one. Normally, I'd try to get away at the beginning of the year but this year I opted to stay put. I delved into admin work, sorted and fixed things in my flat, faced the dreaded tax return, worked on my website (updates all coming soon!) and ran, a lot!. Tackling these tasks has helped me feel prepared, fit, and healthy for the months ahead. Managing overwhelm can be a challenge, and post-Christmas hustle, I surprisingly found solace in the calmness of January. Despite the cold grey days, it provided me with the chance to relax, reflect, and show kindness to myself.
My photography journey so far (now spanning over ten years!) has been a rollercoaster of learning curves, creative challenges, and the exhilaration of capturing fleeting moments that tell timeless stories. On a personal note, after undergoing four moves in the last four years, this year, I am relieved to finally feel more settled. This newfound stability has allowed me to settle into a groove, leading to a boost in my confidence both in myself and my work.
Knowledge is power
Last year, I fully embraced the brilliance of sunny days. I maximised my local knowledge and experience gained from capturing moments in my beloved city, Bristol. My lens documented not only quaint, swift, and quirky micro weddings but also captured the very essence of Bristol's unique charm. Recently, someone asked if I ever got bored shooting in my city, and my answer is a resounding no. The joy of continually rediscovering new photo spots and angles in my neighbourhood is a process that I genuinely relish.
As always, I feel fortunate to have a wonderfully diverse range in my work. This diversity spans from my connections during my time in London to my roots in Devon, offering me a rich tapestry of experiences. It allows me to capture glorious green countryside images as well as bustling city scenes. I've come to realise that this diversity is my photography superpower--I am always versatile and ready for different situations. It's never boring, and it keeps me on my toes. I absolutely love it.
Thank You and Gratitude
Despite the always overwhelming task of reviewing my years work, it's a rewarding journey down memory lane. I am always grateful for my wonderful clients and the unique stories I get to tell through my lens. Looking back is not just about nostalgia; it's a vital step to move forward, influenced by the lessons and experiences that trail behind.
I am genuinely grateful for the wonderful stream of referrals from previous clients. These referrals have brought me the loveliest new connections and opportunities. So thank you, referral clients are like cherished gifts--each one is a testament to the satisfaction and trust of those who came before, creating a chain of connections that enriches both my work and my relationships.
Behind the scenes, I may find it challenging to promote and showcase my work, as self-promotion doesn't come naturally to me. However, I recognise my worth, and I am committed to persistently sharing my craft. My dedication to delivering quality work and capturing meaningful moments remains strong, and I strive to create a lasting impact through my photography.
Looking ahead
Still in the process of recovery after taking a step back with my lens during the challenging times of COVID, My goal for this year is to get closer and truly immerse myself. Here's to capturing more love, laughter, and the beauty of stories in the years to come!
They say a picture tells a thousand words, but to those of you who stopped scrolling to read this, and took a moment to view some of my favourite 2023 images, thank you. Wishing you a fantastic year ahead!
